How Does PRESBYOND® work?

PRESBYOND® is a LASIK based procedure. A small flap is raised with precision using a laser. The corneal surface is then reshaped using a separate laser, and the flap is replaced. The reshaping process allows the eye to focus light properly, resulting in improved near vision without the need for reading glasses. The entire PRESBYOND® laser procedure is performed under anaesthetic eye drops, ensuring that patients remain comfortable throughout the process.

The non-dominant eye is corrected to near vision, and the dominant eye is corrected for distance. This is similar to a traditional treatment called monovision. The difference is that PRESBYOND® incorporates an additional blended zone of vision into each eye, to improve the ability of the brain to adjust to the new visual balance.

Who Can Undergo PRESBYOND® Treatment

Because we customise the PRESBYOND® Lasik treatment to each patient, you will have to undergo a detailed eye examination. The nature and degree of your refractive error(s), curvature and thickness of the cornea, as well as many other factors, play a role in your suitability for PRESBYOND® laser treatment. We will ask you questions about your hobbies, your daily activities and other aspects that might affect the decision to go ahead.

Generally, suitable candidates for PRESBYOND® laser include:

  • People over the age of 40.
  • People with very busy and active lifestyles who often find having to use reading glasses inconvenient.
  • Patients with presbyopia and other refractive errors like myopia, hyperopia or/and astigmatism.

It’s important to note that corneal issues like scars, keratoconus and dry eye can exclude you from eligibility.

Post Presbyopia Surgery Care

After presbyopia surgery, visual acuity typically improves rapidly, especially for near vision. However, adaptation to the new visual impression may take slightly longer than conventional LASIK treatment. We advise patients to go home and rest for a few hours after the procedure. Refrain from applying makeup around the eyes for two weeks. Vigorous exercise and swimming can also be resumed after two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions About PRESBYOND®

> What is the Difference Between LASIK and PRESBYOND®?

Standard LASIK only corrects distance vision, whilst PRESBYOND® corrects your non-dominant eye for near vision and your dominant eye for distance. This allows for clear vision at near, intermediate and far distances.

> Is Presbyopia Treatment Permanent?

Presbyopia treatment procedures like PRESBYOND®, provide long-lasting results by correcting the way your eyes focus. However, they do not stop the natural aging process of the eye. Over time, changes in the lens may still affect near vision, meaning you could eventually need additional treatment later in life.
